Dear Families and Friends,
Sunset School, in partnering with Sandy Hook Promise, is taking part in a "Start with Hello"
Spirit Week from Monday, September 9 to Friday, September 13.
The Start with Hello program teaches K-12 students how to recognize loneliness and social
isolation, how to use effective strategies to reach out and help their peers, and ways they can
help grow an empathetic and inclusive community. Start with Hello Week raises awareness and
educates students and the community through campaigns, classroom lessons, and activities,
and student dress up days.
Schools and youth organizations play an essential role in supporting the healthy development
and growth of children. Children learn important relationship skills and build character everyday
in their classes and in enrichment programs such as this. This is why the Start with Hello
Program is so important. Start with Hello Week brings attention to the growing epidemic of
social isolation in our schools and communities and empowers young people to create a culture
of inclusion and connectedness within their school and youth organization.
