Kara Davidson, Principal, Sunset

Dear Sunset Families,

As we round out this school year, I want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible hard work, dedication, and growth that we have witnessed across our school community. This year has been filled with learning, achievement, and meaningful progress, and I could not be more proud of our students, staff, and families.

One of the greatest joys of my first year as Sunset's Principal has been getting to know our students and many of our families. It has been a privilege to learn about the unique strengths, talents, and aspirations that make our school community so special. Thank you for welcoming me into the Sunset family and for partnering with us throughout the year.

This year has been one of tremendous growth and positive change at Sunset School. Together, we have worked to strengthen our instructional program through curricular alignment, improved instructional strategies, a more effective master schedule, and a stronger commitment to data-based decision-making to support student success. These efforts have helped us better meet the needs of all learners, and we have seen encouraging academic growth as a result.

In addition to our academic improvements, we have expanded opportunities to celebrate students and build a positive school culture. This year, we introduced Positive Office Referrals, Ice Cream Fridays, 6th Grade Dances, the Care Closet, and Party on the Playground. These initiatives have helped us recognize student success, support families, and create memorable experiences for our students.

We are also fortunate to have an outstanding Booster Club that has long been a cornerstone of our school community. Their dedication and hard work made many family events and movie nights possible throughout the year. We are incredibly grateful for their continued commitment to supporting Sunset students and families.

Looking ahead, I am excited to continue welcoming families into our school and strengthening the partnership between home and school. When families and educators work together, students thrive.

As we prepare to celebrate the end of the year, I would like to invite our 6th-grade students and their families to our Farewell Celebration on Thursday, June 4th, at 5:30 p.m. We look forward to recognizing our students as they complete this important chapter and prepare for the next stage of their educational journey.

I would also like to share information about Summer School, which will take place August 3–20, Mondays through Thursdays, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Participation will be by invitation, and we will also be collecting names for a waitlist. Our Summer School program will focus primarily on literacy instruction to improve reading outcomes while incorporating plenty of engaging summer activities and fun. Transportation, breakfast, and lunch will be provided for participating students.

Thank you for your support, encouragement, and partnership throughout this school year.

Sincerely,

Kara Davidson, Principal
