Hello Sunset Families

Dear Families and Caregivers,
As we welcome our final three weeks of school before Winter Break, we want to thank you for your continued partnership and support. These next few weeks are crucial as we work toward strong learning growth and prepare students for the Middle of the Year (MOY) assessment window.
One of our core instructional priorities this fall is English Language Arts (ELA). Our schoolwide goal is to have 45% of our students performing at or above grade level on ELA assessments by the MOY checkpoint in late January. To help reach this goal, teachers are working hard every day to strengthen instruction, particularly in the area of correct letter sounds and reading accuracy. These foundational skills are critical for reading success, and we are seeing positive progress as students practice and grow.
In addition, our staff is focusing on providing students with positive, specific, and corrective feedback. This means students are receiving clear praise for what they are doing well and gentle, targeted guidance on how to improve. This approach helps students understand their learning goals and builds confidence and independence in the classroom.
We also ask for your support in one of the most powerful ways you can help your child succeed: attendance. Being in school every day matters, especially as we head into the break. There are only 14 more school days before Winter Break, and each one plays an important role in your child’s learning. Please help your student set a personal goal to attend school every day through December 21.
A reminder that Winter Break begins December 22 and runs through January 5, with students returning to school on January 6.
Thank you for being an essential part of our school community. Together, we can make these final weeks before break meaningful, productive, and joyful for our students.

Sincerely,
Kara Davidson
Principal
